Well preserved castle by the river Monnow set in a pretty peaceful little village. No fee to get in! People were having picnics around the outside of the castle. Just a wonderful setting all round with a very pretty church not far away. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.
There was a lovely cup of tea and home made cake offered by two kind ladies in the church to help raise funds for Christian Aid; a wonderful surprise and very welcome!
Had a quick visit to this lovely castle next to the river. Lovely setting also St Bridget's Church is a pretty church not a long visit but enjoyable. There also an hotel across the road for meals
I wanted to go to Skenfrith as I used to swim in the river with family friends back in the 70s. The river bank has been re-worked and it was hard to recognise where those memories were made. Great place for a picnic or pub lunch nearby and history too. We did this as part of a Cadw 3 castles tour which made it extra interesting. Not as brilliant as White Castle or fascinating as Grosmont but still worth a visit.
