This set of ruins is amazing. No crowds like Annaberg ruins. The craftsmanship of the buildings is to be admired. We spent over an hour wandering the grounds and not one other person showed up to check them out. These are not to be missed.
Can you imagine all the man hours digging, carting, stacking all these lava stones...backbreaking work for months, if not years. Eerie place, felt the souls that were there all those many years ago.
Catherineberg ruins is off the beaten path. Recommend a 4WD vehicle especially if you continue over the mountain from route 10 to 20. The ruins are is awesome condition and we took a bunch of pictures. Too bad it is not more publicized. definitely recommend a visit!
Drove out with directions from the web. Found them easy if you drive on 10 towards Coral Bay and when you see the Virgin Island National Park sign make a left. Go up a very bumpy road a short distance and there they are. They are in pretty good shape compared to the others.
