My friend recommended we attend Frederick Lutheran on Sunday morning. The historic church is beautiful inside with inlay work hovering above the pulpit, "perfect posture" pews, and images of a dark-skinned island Jesus. It was a blessing to see a congregation of mixed cultures and skin tones. If only this beautiful diversity composed more faith gatherings. They served Communion and... 更多
As a Historian, it was imperative for me to take the opportunity to see this historic church. I LOVE the fact that the church was open and available to take it personally. I only wish there was a tour guide or a booklet that gave you a bit more personal information about the church.
They were celebrating their 350th anniversary while my husband and I were visiting. We visited on a Saturday (best to visit on the weekend), so no services being held, but the church was open to visitors and we signed their guestbook. We loved walking through the oldest church building on St. Thomas and 350 years of history!! My husband is... 更多
We spent a few minutes walking around the church one afternoon to get out of the summer heat. It is a beautiful church from the outside. Also it is clear it used to be a magnificent place inside years ago. The interior now needs some TLC (and a good cleaning). However, if you want to see a building with interesting... 更多
We celebrated 23 years of marriage yesterday, and it all began here! We had a destination wedding from Texas. This was the second stop on our cruise, and we arranged to be married here and had the reception on the ship with our 50 guests. It was the hottest day ever, and of course this old historic church has no air... 更多
Georgian in style, it was built in the 1780's, and has been rebuilt several times, resulting in the addition of its Gothic Revival trim. I didn't have a chance to go in cause there was a service in progress. From the outside.. She is beautiful! Worth checking out if you're touring Charlotte Amalie.
This church is part of the downtown St. Thomas USVI historic walking tour. It is open for the public to enter. Once we entered we could sense the many years of worship, actually 350 years. It was such a memorable experience to share what so many before us had felt in the sanctuary. There was no docent available in the... 更多
I love to visit old Lutheran churches. The woodwork for the time period is very nice, yet exemplifies the humility of their faith. It is amazing how well kept the church building is considering the current building is almost 200 years old and still in daily use.
