Perched above Isabel Segunda facing the Atlantic this fort is wonderful museum with information on the island's history and naval influences.
We enjoyed the view but there really isn't much else there. I'm a history buff but the information presented is minimal. You'll learn about the dispute between the locals and US Navy but not much else of interest. Worth going for the view if time allows but not worth any sacrifice of precious beach time.
These guys are fun ... we went to Fortin Conde de Mirasol as our very last adventure before heading off to drop our Jeep back at the rental office. We were looking for the relic of the ancient 4000-year-old man that was found on Vieques a few years ago. But they had lent him to another museum for a while... 更多
"Without firing a short, we defeated the US Navy." Go to read about the local people's sad but ultimately triumphant history with the US Navy, which took over the island and moved all the residents inland in the 1940s, leaving undetonated bombs throughout their homeland. Also great views of "Town."
Great views from this fort. We thought the fort and museum would feature the Spanish History, however it focuses on the actions of the US Navy and it's usage of the island. Very interesting included some unknown facts to us. Under President Bush senior, they were thinking of relocating all the residents to St Croix so they could continue military... 更多
Last day on the island and we decided to visit the old fort. Used more as a prison than a defensive fort. Included in the prison roll call were 25 Dominican Freedom Fighters who were imprisoned here....they lasted about 3 months (no one knows for sure how they died)...but they became martyrs and are celebrated each year here on Vieques,... 更多
Though the fort is under renovation, still worth the trip. The views are outstanding! Got great pictures of iguanas sunning themselves on the hot rocks!
I was there today because Radio Vieques, the only community radio station in Virques celebrated it's third aniversary today and I'm a volunteer there Mondays 7-9am anf 5-7pm!! Its a lovely place with amazing people working there! Now under renovation until the first weekend in December 2016! Come visit us!
This museum is interesting, excellent service, perfect view. (If you have a good camera, here you'll find very beautiful shots) Me encanto la vista, el encargado del museo muy servicial, tiene muchos objetos, fotos e historia interesante.
