A must see and do in Basse Terre. We only hike to the second chutes du Carbet. We did not have enough time for the other nor the right shoes. It was beautiful.
We visited this after hiking la souffriere and though our legs were tired it was worth the walk! There was plenty of parking, although the drive to the parking area was adventurous - windy and narrow. When we arrived we were charged $2.50 per person by a park worker who spoke limited English (a nice surprise!). We first walked to... 更多
I would say this was certainly a difficult and certainly challenging hike. Just a few things to note and consider, finding the entrance was difficult as the sign was hard to find, and once you are on the trail, there's directions/signs whatsoever.
If you want a good hike in some pretty good rain forest conditions then this is a good attraction to come to and is well worth the very small entrance fee. If you are doing anything other than the nearest waterfall then come prepared - plenty of water, something to eat, breathable rainproof jacket and very good footwear (preferably proper... 更多
We visited 1st and 2nd waterfalls. #2 is easily reached from the parking area (about 20 minutes along a very good route) - however, it is not so magnificent view, because the best spot has been closed after the 2004 landslide. The hike up to the 1st waterfall is pretty difficult - you should not under-estimate the signs and do... 更多
The higher falls are accessed through the signposted national park entrance for a small fee, there is a good view from the platform above the entrance for those who cannot walk far, interesting to reflect that C Columbus saw these falls from the sea and landed for fresh water as a result. The hike is about 20 mins on a... 更多
Heard the chutes are beautiful, but when we got there it was raining. The chutes should be visible from a viewing platform, but were just a blur. 20 minute walk each way moderate activity level to see the closer chute. Still couldn't fully appreciate it because of all the fog and rain. I can say it is a dramatic drop.... 更多
The access is paved, and just a short walk. The falls are really nice, especially when you see them both behind each other. There is a small entrance fee and there are toilets (not really clean, but still).
