My husband and I were on a cruise and did this tour. I have a foot injury but I was told that i could manage to handle the walking. We were driven up to the fort so I only had to climb one incline on a paved surface. It seems that a lot of people walk up the hill from... 更多
A very nicely restored fort on the top of a hill, a stiff climb from the town. Fabulous views and a nice collection of cacti in the grounds. Inside the fort there are excellent displays of the local flora and fauna and a lovely, if surprising given usual French sensitivities, series of displays explaining the local 1782 naval battle when... 更多
Worth the hike/ride up. Small entrance fee but it's worth every euro. There's a nice museum inside with a history of the island and some natural exhibits, but the best part are the views. There's a walking path around the top of the fortifications, and if you're lucky you might spot some of the local iguanas hanging out in the... 更多
I haven't seen all the forts but, I have seen many, most are remnants. Fort Napoleon is well preserved, has an interesting museum inside the garrison which reveals the fate of the French fleet that saved the American Revolution at Yorktown, I was amazed. Later, now being aware, we sailed over the watery grave of over 2500 men, it was... 更多
Fort Napoléon is on a bluff in Terre-de-Haut, Les Saintes, Guadeloupe. The British destroyed it 1809. It was rebuilt in 1867. Named after Napoleon III, it never saw use in battle. Instead the government used it as a prison for political prisoners in the Second World War. Today it is a museum dedicated to the Saintes’ history, culture, and environment.... 更多
Situated on a hill overlooking the whole area this fort is well maintained and worth a lengthy visit. Built in 1777. We walked up there, took about 40 minutes so start early before it gets too hot if you're on foot. Lots of history about naval battles, good display rooms, gift shop and gardens. Everything is in English and French... 更多
It is high but this is worth the effort as you can overlook the sea 360 degres around. A better view you won t get unless you take an helicopter! the gardens are lovely and the museum quite interesting. If you are in Terre de Haut, you must see it!
Spent some time here looking at fort and the museum displays. Well presented, could spend a few hours here really getting into the history. Nice they accepted US dollars and euros. Nice grounds, great views.
