We had missed visiting this site the last time we were in Willemstad so on our return vacation made this a priority. It is hugely engaging and while small you should commit at least an hour to really take it all in.
The historical Jewish Museum is interesting of items of years gone by in the Jewish religion, there is not a lot to see but what there is, is of interest, if you are Jewish then these displays will have alot of meaning to you, but the displays have cards that describe what is on display. The museum is attached to the synagogue. It contains many historical documents, original clothing, WW2 memorabilia, an Anne Frank section, and a genuine old Torah Scroll dated to the 1600's. Definitely worth a visit.
Although viewing the first synagogue in the Western Hemisphere may be a deeply religious experience for people of the Jewish faith or Jewish culture, the experience for non-Jews or secular Americanized Jews is lackluster. One of the oldest Torah...I ever seen from 1300...under a glass. still readable but fallen a part . Even, I have been in many Jewish museam and in Israel... Very unique, well preserved Jewish heritage
I hesitate to give a review of this museum because my knowledge of Jewish Culture is limited, but let me try. This is a gorgeous, well-preserved place of worship. On the 2nd floor is amazing history of Jewish culture. I am sure this would be an outstanding museum to those with more knowledge than I have.
Most of the Punda area is run over with Tourist and cruise ship trap type stores. This however is a beautiful museum attached to the oldest Synagogue in the Western Hemisphere and totally worth a visit - especially if your in Curacao.
