Queen Wilhelmina was the longest-reigning Dutch monarch ruling the Netherlands from 1898 to 1948. There is a marble statue of the queen that was erected in 1955. We chose not to do an Excursion but walk around the beautiful area and town and park. The people are most friendly and we felt comfortable walking about. The park was beautiful and well maintained. Iguanas were everywhere so we spent some time photographing them. After walking to the small beach we crossed over and walked to the other side... 更多
Very near the intensive shopping area and its hubub, this little park makes for a gentle respite. The small statue of Queen Wilhelmina is lovely, and I loved even more the statue of Anne Frank with hopeful inscription in four languages on the four sides of the base. While you are shopping downtown, stroll by Wilhelmina Park to view one of the local tributes to Dutch colonialism. It's an average type urban setting, but while you are in Oranjestad, why not see it.
Our hotel was next to this park and we encountered it on our way to dinner late one afternoon. It's a pretty little park with walking paths, a couple statues, and shrubbery. It only takes a few minutes to see the park if in a hurry, but one could spend up to an hour if so inclined.
