I am always looking for something new, as I live in the Denver metro. Other reviewers have it right- there are much more spectacular things to do, but this is still a good hike - very well maintained trail. Great for solitude if you keep going on the trail beyond Lulu City.
This is an "out and back" hike that follows the Colorado River. There is a lot of history along the trail, but very little of it visibly remains. I understand that there are old mines and mine tailings, but they are obviously not marked for fear of people climbing on or entering them.
The trail does pass some nice meadows...
Don't do it. We did the entire 14 mile round trip hike to the Grand Ditch and passed by Lulu City which is not much more than a stake in the ground saying here was Lulu City. There are other and better hikes in the Park.
Total distance was over 7 miles but terrain was not bad. We didn't find much at the Lulu City site but was a nice morning hike. Wish we would have gone the extra mile and gone to the Yellowstone Canon.
I believe the total distance for this hike (there and back) is close to 7 miles. We started earlier in the day around 10:00 a.m. and the hike took around 4 1/2 hours.
