When in the Olympic National Park, rain is expected. Since much of it is a rain forest, you will get wet. The Hoh River snakes its way through lush green trees and tall sword ferns. Even in the rain, you will enjoy the beauty of the park and the river.
I loved my drive along the Hoh River. The water is pristine looking and the blue colors that water in rivers should be! I could not help but stop numerous times to hear the water and take pictures. Beautiful and peaceful.
Getting more than 120 inches of rain a year, the rainforest has to be seen to be believed! There are three trails at the visitor's center. Any of the trails will give you some great views. The shortest, Hall of Mosses is my favorite. If you are going to visit Olympic National Park, you must visit the Hoh Rainforest!
We did the Creek trail and the Hoh River Trail for about 2-3 miles, and both were excellent - huge trees, lots of moss and ferns, varied forest conditions, and amazing vistas of the River. Only drag about the Hoh is that it takes a good 30 minutes to get from 101 to the parking lot.
Visited on 5/6/16. I hiked about 4 miles into the Hoh River Trail from the Hoh Rain Forest visitor center, which took me about 3 hours. This trail is a lot better than the Hall of Mosses. Parts of the Hoh remind me of Alaska with rushing water and glacial-like beaches of rock. You can fish, perhaps even raft? this river. Looked like fun; spend some time.
Salmon fishing second week of October. Unbelievable. Kings and Cohos everywhere. Also fished river nearby, the Sol Duc. Same outcome. Will be going back next year. If you go, find an experienced guide. Made all the difference in the world.
