Love taking this route from the Okonogan to Seattle and beyond. The scenery from Winthrop to Concrete is amazing with the towering mountains, beautiful lakes and river. Many hiking trails in the area and Newhalem is a nice place to camp with a large state campground and beautiful information centre and gift shop.
Hubby and I love the North Cascades Highway due to its very scenic route. Plenty of pull-outs to stop and stretch your legs from driving. We always started early in the morning so we could cover all the stops we needed to make. Summer would be most preferable for gorgeous photographs (especially the emerald Diablo Lake) but late September showcase... 更多
This drive is a great way to see North Cascades National Park. It goes right through the middle of the park, and you can see mountains, lakes and waterfalls. Be sure to make a few stops along the way. There is a point early in the drive that you have a great view of snow covered mountains. Be sure to... 更多
Took us way longer than the average drive because we stopped, took tons of pictures, and hiked. The scenery was breathtaking! Stretch your legs at Trail of the Cedars, the overlooks, and Rainy Lake. We only wish we had more time! The road is designed well (fairly wide and in great shape) so it would be easy to pull a... 更多
On route to Winthrop, Washington, we turned onto the North Cascades HIghway at Burlington, and found ourselves in one of the most beautiful National Parks - soaring mountains, serene vistas, lakes, awesome nature, just a hop from the development and the cities of the Pacific Northwest. We were just transiting on route to Winthrop, but this is obviously a paradise... 更多
One of the very best things about the US is their national parks and this is another spectacular park. Lake Diablo with its stunning teal waters is not to be missed. Washington Lookout which is right on the highway is another place with great viewpoints. There are a lot of trails of varying degrees of length which start right on... 更多
The drive from Marblemount to Washington Pass is about 60 miles. Our favorites: NCNP Visitor Center, River Loop Trail, in Newhalem Trail of Cedars (entrance behind Skagit general store over foot bridge over river), Ladder Creek Falls and gardens by the powerhouse (same area), Diablo Lake Overlook, Happy Creek Forest Walk, and our favorite Washington Pass with spectacular panoramic views.... 更多
We recently traveled the Cascades Highway and visited Mt. Rainier, Mt. St Helens and Mt. Hood. It was foggy when we visited the Sunrise Visitors center at Ranier so we could not see the mountain but got some interesting information. My. St Helens had an excellent visitors center with a great movie about the volcanic eruption and aftermath. Fortunately for... 更多
