You don't have to be a bird watcher to appreciate the array of species to be seen here. The whole area is very special and well worth a detour from the main road. There are some hides and low key signage but the main stars are the flamingos (lots of other important birds but nothing quite so pink). If you... 更多
Take your binoculars and camera and wear sensible shoes - we managed to see pelicans, storks, flamingoes, egrets, cormorants & herons - quite a few different types of each. The place to go if you like birdwatching.
You can leave the main road between Kalloni and Mytilini and drive around the pans, the road ist quite deserted and you can take your time. There is some signing about the birds etc. I'm no ornithologist but we saw flamingos and black storks and we were told that the Kalloni Bay is an absolute hotspot for birdwatchers. There are... 更多
This is part of the gulf of Kalloni but just a little water just salt lake. Birds are everywhere, and wonderful flamingos.... it's on the road to Molyvos just before Kalloni, just after the benzyna station, turn left...
We hired bicycles to visit the salt flats on several occasions. We have good binoculars and although are not serious bird watchers (who would probably have visited in the Spring), we enjoyed seeing the variety of birds there. We saw flamingos, Dalmation and white pelicans, black and white storks, egrits, herons, stilts and avocets among others.
I love walking to the Salt Pans from Skalla Kolloni this time we came for the day as was staying else where on the Island of lesvos. We got a taxi to the square and as its a very hot walk set off early after a quick breakfast from the bakers at the harbour, Take some bread with you and... 更多
The salt pans are home to many species of birds . Greater Zflamingoes in abundance and all in all a most enjoyable walk.i spent just over an hour there but could have stayed longer ! Great walks and birds that I've never seen before.
Excellent for a variety of wading birds but especially the flock of 500+ Greater Flamingos. There are a couple of hides and you are able to drive down the right hand side and along to bottom of the reserve parallel to the road.
Well used by bird watchers. Many go in April to May for the bird migration, wetlands. We went last July and they were dry. Going at this time of the year, May to June you get the benefit of a wonderful, different view.
This was an amazing experience visiting the salt pans in spring 2016. Quite a few bird watching people were in attendance at dusk wielding huge lensed cameras on tripods - serious stuff! Me and my little Panasonic seemed a bit out of place but immediately I came across a flock of black winged stilts noisily fishing. Then a black stork,... 更多
