This to me is the quintessential romantic garden, full of hidden paths and little secrets. It is a delight and absolutely free to visit!
Beautiful gardens at any time of the year. Really well kept and there is a lovely little café nestled in the centre of a garden centre. Probably the nicest gardens we have visited in Ireland. Can't say any better than that !
Altamount Gardens is beautifully nestled in Carlow, it provides the family with a walkway through majestic formal gardens which then lead to a winding adventure over streams and by riverbank and of course up through the 100 steps. Well worth a visit. Not suitable for pushchairs.
Just beyond the entrance archway, is a Herbaceous Border and beyond that a café and garden centre/plants for sale. However walking straight ahead and left brings one under trees and the opens out into a beautiful garden at the back of Altamont House (which itself is in disrepair). Visited these gardens last spring and have to say they did not disappoint ,beautiful flowers and lovely walk around the lake ...plenty of little beauty spots for the children to explore
We visit Altamont almost every summer and it continues to inspire. The herbaceous borders are full of interest. There are 3 different paths leading to the lake. You can circuit the lake and walk further down to the river. All delightful with plants and trees to enjoy along the way. Disabled access is reasonable. There is a plant shop and... 更多
Garden looked a little bit tired now at the end of summer..but I had a delightful walk and hope to revisit when house has been renovated.
