This impressive modern building sits on a sea cliff above Calheta about 30minutes west of Funchal. The building is hard to miss but the actual entrance to the gallery is not well signposted. There were very few people around and in fact we were the only visitors in the Gallery at 10am on a Thursday in July. The art was... 更多
Our feeling when visiting this amazing building with great views is that it is not well explored. The place has everything to be THE cultural centre of the island, there's even an auditorium for cinema, congresses, whatever. The bookshop is poor. The vast space seems to be too much for what they show. We definitely recommend Casa das Mudas, but... 更多
Did you know that the original "casa das Mudas" was made of stone and not like it is today (painted in pink - I wonder who was the "bright head" that had that idea). It's a excelente contemporary art museum, but it is a pity that is inside a box, the architect who designed it should be drunk.
Very innovative building on the edge of the cliff with wonderful views over Calheta marina and beach. Maybe we were expecting more but the art? was less than inspiring. Had the cafe been open it would have been the high spot of our visit!
Just visited to see the building as the gallery was closed (Good Fri), fantastic if you like that style of architecture, clean modern strong lines, great views.
On arrival it's a bit vague as to where the actual entrance is - don't be put off - there's nothing so crass as signage it would seem! The building is sensational with brilliant views of Calheta and the surrounding mountains. It's so lavish but as we have found with other Portuguese properties open to the public, they are not... 更多
That this is something unusual you already can see when approaching Casas das Mudas Art Centre: Made from very exact blocks of lava stone, exact rectangular buildings. Inside you can find a fine collection of contemporary art which you wouldn't expect on Madeira. Really worth to go. Also worth a visit is the café and restaurant belonging to the museum.
Fantastic architecture, perched high above the town of Calheta - but the only sign as its location is at the entrance. We asked at a petrol station - he pointed at it, but there were no signs on the roundabout junction to help. We overshot the car park and had to U-turn to get to it. The free bus from... 更多
