While the video is good. OK, the Museum is a bit sparse inside for exhibits to browse over, but after going through the 'replica' hut, make your way over to find 'Harry' and on the way just take in the size of the POW Camp which is HUGE and partly identifiable by the 'planted' tyres in the ground that define... 更多
Like most Brits, your primary aim is probably to see the tunnels. This can be done any day/time as the remains are about 1km out of Zagan centre on the edge of a military training area. The site has quad-lingual signage dotted around the woods so you can discover at your leisure. The POW museum is open Tuesday - Sunday... 更多
It is completely renovated and mainly known from movie "The great escape". I recommend firstly to watch the film and later if you liked compare action taken to reality of this camp. Enjoy.
There is a modest little museum and some mockups of the camp buildings. The only feature left of camp is the fire pond and some foundations. I am a bit of a WWII buff and found it interesting, the wife not so much. It helps to have seen the movie recently.
This visit was a lifelong dream of mine. My father was a POW in Stalag Luft III from 10/19/43 until they were evacuated by the Germans as the Russians were closing in at the end of January 1945. He was on the march that the POWs were forced to take in January 1945 to reach Stalag 7A in Moosburg,Germany until... 更多
I really had to pinch myself to believe I was visiting at one of the most iconic WW2 sites. We arrived at the museum first which bizarrely was locked and required the bell to be rung to summon the curator. The cost is nothing and one feels that perhaps a more realistic cost would enable them to develop the museum... 更多
For convenience, I have divided my review into 3 parts. THE MUSEUM This is a vital part of any visit to the site of Stalag Luft III. It is situated about a mile from the location of the camp and I would suggest, should be visited first, to inform your site visit later. The museum has many artifacts from the... 更多
Definitely worth a visit just to imagine how the tunnel was completed. The museum is certainly worth visiting along with a visit to the memorial built by the prisoners in memory of the fifty aircrew murdered by the Gestapo.
A place you must visit if you are a WWII POW escape history buff. Although language was a barrier the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Be prepared to spend money on books etc if you and your son are interested in POW history. A moving experience to visit the site of the tunnel and view the names of the... 更多
If you don't know the story of the Great Escape the museum may not have much to offer you. If you are interested in the story, it is quite a worthwhile stop. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable, the exhibits small but moving and there is a mock up of one of the huts and the tunnel itself. From the... 更多
