While in Barentsburg, you go on a walk around the town showing the buildings. Old Russian/Soviet mining town. We stopped off at the museum to have a look around. As other people state it has a limited exhibits, but still worth a visit
We also visited the very small wooden church, worth a visit also.
Went to Barentsburg with Henningsen Transport and Guiding, on the M/S Langoysund.
The landscape during the trip is beautiful, the ship stops at Esmark glacier to serve lunch and then on to Barentsburg. Here we had a 35-40 minutes guided tour and then free to roam around for more than one hour.
Is a Russian mining establishment, with multi-colored buildings,...
In the special environment of Spitsbergen this is a somewhat special place with a complete different culture (Russian) which reflects everywhere - buildings, people, industry etc. It seems odd to get coal here and transport it all the way to civilisation, this activity seems very polluting and dirty to me which doesn't match the general perception of Svalbard.
