Travelling by taxi from Praia it makes sense to branch off to the right first, before descending to Cidade Velha proper. Soon one arrives at the Fortaleza de São Filipe. Only here, at a small information center, one can buy a ticket for 500 Esc (5 €) per person, valid also for the other sights down in Cidade Velha. At... 更多
We got offered a lift into Praia by a local couple. Entrance was cheap (10 euros for the 4 of us if I remember right) and would have got us in other historical sites. You have realy nice views over the harbour and see all the cannons. The whole tour is around 45 mins.
This was an interesting visit. This is a Unesco world heritage site. Our guide was very good. We were told lots of information and history. The guide (whose name I have unfortunately forgotten) had lived in Boston ,America for a time and understood how tourism "worked"
There is no real path to get up from the city (or we haven't found it) but we managed to get up there. It is a nice little hike and you have a view on all of Cidade Velha which is nice. We didn't enter the Fortaleza as it was closed. There also seem to be a little bar in... 更多
This was the fortress that defended the first European colony in Africa. The view is amazing and the fortress is very well kept and restored. You can watch a video in English where you buy your ticket. Do spend time walking the ramparts and enjoy the magnificent views.
This was a beautiful experience. After visiting the Pelourinho, the Convento and the churches, we decided to stop here on the way out of Ribera Grande. Entrance fee is 500 escudos per person and includes a 15 minute introduction video. You will then be escorted to the entrance gate in the fort and you are free to walk around within... 更多
This is a must see if in Praia. Give yourself an hour to drive here on your way to or from the airport. As the ancient city was the first city built by Europeans in Africa, it’s worth a visit. There is an ancient fort built atop a hill overlooking the old town with an amazing view up and down... 更多
We arrive to Cidade Velha with a collective bus, it cost 100 CVE each, great experience with local people. Once in the main square we walk up to the cathedral ruins, you cannot see that much here. Then took a street an walk up to the Fortaleza, it's an easy walk and quick. Locals will help you if you cannot... 更多
Enough of the fort is still there to imagine the history of the past. They also show a video to further enhance it. With the nice views of the old town it is eady to picture the importance of the buildings and all the work that went into it. Well worth the 500 ESC:)
Historic Portuguese fort high on a hill above Cidade Velha on Santiago Island, Cape Verde. Modest entrance fee included a dated 10 minute video in Spanish, about half of which had subtitles in English. Entrance fee also included a free guided tour by a not-so-official-looking local guy. He took us around the fort and showed us the major buildings and... 更多
